Friends Health Connection

Notice of site closing September 7, 2014

Dear Friends,

It has been more than 25 years since the start of Friends’ Health Connection.  Over the past decades, we have connected people across the country and around the world who are battling illness for the purpose of mutual support.  We have garnered widespread media attention and dozens of honors.  But, what has touched us most are the stories we have heard from you – about the ways in which the friendships you have made have impacted your lives.

In recent years we have faced various challenges - from funding shortages to lack of staff resources to illness of our own.  This has led to a decision.  We are planning to close our online community as of September 7, 2014 and will focus on one aspect of our mission: health/wellness education.  We will continue to offer online webinars and post videos of past events as we are able.

Please visit our web site at www.friendshealthconnection.org for continued updates.  If you are not yet on our email list and wish to join, please send your name and email to us at info@friendshealthconnection.org.  You can also connect with us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/FriendsHealthConnection and/or Twitter: https://twitter.com/fhcfriends

If you wish to keep in touch with FHC friends you have made, please reach out to them through our online community prior to September 7.  You can exchange emails or any information you wish.  It is up to you.

We thank you for being a part of our organization over the past years and look forward to having you join us for our online programs and events.

Exclusive Original Series

Preventing Domestic Violence Among People with Disabilities

A 12-Part, Year-Long Series

Life with disability can create a fertile breeding ground for domestic violence since it also leads to dependence on another person for everyday physical needs.
The problem is not limited to one gender but the prevalence seems to be much more significant for women. Estimates show that at least 85% of women with disabilities are victims of domestic violence.

To bring awareness to this issue, as well as information to assist those who might be facing abuse or at-risk, Friends’ Health Connection is offering an unprecedented online lecture series involving many of the country’s leading organizations in the field. We have assembled speakers who not only know the domestic violence side of the issue but who also can speak about abuse in the context of disabilities. Our next session, Screening for Domestic Violence with Dr. Sara Plummer, will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 3:00 PM EST.
